Walking gives the body a great workout, all the time. However, you have to know how to do it just right. I thought it was just walking but after doing some research, I learned that how you walk matters a lot. And if you walk in the right manner, you can actually walk your way to better health and fitness. I have been a walking enthusiast since my days in college. I preferred walking to all places rather take my car. This saw me forge a love affair with sneakers and other flat soled shoes.
Strong heart and strong lungs
There are different types of walking. There is the ordinary walking, you know, when you are just walking to work, school or any other place without paying any special mind to it. This kind of walking does many good things to your body. Science shows that walking strengthens the heart and the lungs.
Strong muscles and bones
Walking will make your muscles and bones much stronger. It will make you more enduring to hard work too. As a woman, I love to maintain bikini legs, you know, for the beach during summer. Walking has helped me to tone my leg and calf muscles.
Lose and manage weight with walking
Walking can help one lose weight. Ok, for me, I actually did not capitalize on walking to help me lose weight. However, after auditing my diet, drinking copious amounts of water and exercising at home, I lost a few pounds and I decided I would walk every day to keep the pounds lost. And it worked for me. Walking helped me to maintain my weight just where I wanted it.
Experts say that a fast, purposeful walk can be powerful in burning calories. Actually, it can be as powerful as a fast jog and can burn the extra calories that you need to lose. You will also enjoy a good heart rate, a great time outdoors as the fresh air lifts your mood and as the music of the birds and the insects cheers you up. Walking is simple but healthy, and there are no doubts about that.
However, to enjoy walking, you need to take care of a few things first:
I love the synthetic-soled sneakers that have been designed specifically for casual walking. If they come with mesh textile top, that is even much better. Just make sure the walking shoes suit your feet just fine and make sure they have a thick sole if you would like to walk the unbeaten trails.
If you are starting out, start small and keep building up the distance that you walk every day. This will save you from muscle aches. Even at the end of the walk, slow down a bit before the end so that you can get your muscles accustomed to the sudden decrease in speed.
Also, know how to choose a perfect route to walk. For example, when it is rainy, avoid the unbeaten trails and do pavement walking instead. You can also walk to the grocery store if you just need a few items. Ok, let’s just say that if you care about walking, you will always find an opportunity and a place to walk.
When is the best time to fix your daily walk? Evening and morning are perfect – whichever is good for you. But this is just a consensus and so you can walk just whenever you please.
